The Purple Passionfruit Cottage has small kitchenette (range, oven, mini-fridge/freezer, microwave), full bathroom and two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king bed and an attached lanai with a ocean view. The other bedroom doubles as a living room with one twin bed. TA-008-365-8240-01<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />The Purple Cottage overlooks the ocean and the 20 acre estate surrounded by rainforest within the Puna Forest Reserve, 4 miles from Pahoa. Enjoy active steam vents with pure water steam, warm ground and experimental hot tubs over steam vents. With no visible neighbors the property is secluded and peaceful with citrus, bananas, fruit orchard, avocados, palms, and many flowers.<br /><br />The Purple Cottage has a cozy king size bed in a private bedroom with sliding glass door to the lanai. The second bedroom has a trundle bed that expands to two twin beds. There is a kitchenette with all the amenities and full size bathroom. Cell service works for most. <br /><br />Our nighttime temperatures are perfect for restful sleep. We value your privacy and don’t require interaction for check in or checkout unless you want to say hi or have questions. Both studios have lanais overlooking the meadow and ocean.<br /><br />2 Room Cottages<br />Purple Passionflower<br />Rainbow Cottage<br />Purple Passionflower has a kitchenette with all the amenities, a full bathroom, a king size bed in the master bedroom and two twins in the second bedroom.<br />Rainbow Cottage is the same but has a queen in master bedroom. Both cottages have lanais overlooking the meadow and ocean.<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />There is a gate to access our property and you will receive the instructions when you make your reservation. We value your privacy and don’t require interaction for check in or checkout unless you want to say hello or have questions. The property is very private and quiet. <br /><br />Guests can use the BBQ and 1.2 mile rainforest trail around the 20 acre property. Guests are also invited to eat fruit from the orchard including lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, banana, soursop, guava and avocado.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />The 20 acre retreat is within the Puna Forest Reserve and our grounds are surrounded by rainforest that is part of the retreat. Hawaiian Natives own the non-private property within the reserve to protect the Native Ohia forest that is sacred to them. The reserve was acquired by the Trust for Public Lands and transferred to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. The reserve is endangered species habitat for the Endangered Hawaiian Owl, Hawk, and Bat. While these species are otherwise very rare they are often seen at the retreat. Researchers continue to identify new species and there is ongoing collaboration to control invasives. <br /><br />The Ohia Forest has giant ferns, diverse species of orchids, epiphytic plants, strawberry guava, passion fruit, geckos, praying mantis and songbirds. The rainforest is very dense and so we ask guests to remain on the grounds for their safety unless we discuss the specific hazards. The retreat property surrounding the grounds feature many skylights into lava tubes as well as lava trees and caves. The Puna Rainforest is invigorating to see, taste, hear and feel.<br /><br />This property has a no-pet policy. Trained service animals are welcome and are not subject to a pet fee. Please note that service animals must be housebroken and under your control at all times. You are liable for any damages caused by the service animal.
