Although every effort is made to keep insects out an occasional insect (harmless Gecko, Ant, Mosquito, Ladybeetle, Water Bug) may make its way inside. Kaua’i has no dangerous or poisonous insects. <br />The best way to prevent this is to keep screen doors closed at all times.<br /><br />Wildlife:<br />You’ll likely hear the cheerful sounds of local birds and free-roaming chickens in the mornings, an iconic part of Kauai life. These chickens are descendants of birds that escaped their coops during past hurricanes and have since made the island their home. These are also bad for people if breathed in.<br /><br />SACRED SITES:<br />• Hawaiʻi is home to many Heiaus (Sacred Ancient Hawaiian Temples). Please treat these places with Reverence, obey signage, and refrain from disturbing them in any way. Take care to heed any signs reading ‘Kapu’. This word comes from the ancient Hawaiian system of laws and taboos.
