Take a break and unwind at this peaceful oasis. Soak in the beautiful view of the Kona coast from your lanai, with plenty of flowers, fruit and herbs growing in the garden for your enjoyment. Depending on the season sample fresh papaya, mango, citrus, pineapple, lilikoi, guava, and bananas! This is a beautiful space located in the downstairs of a quiet two story home. Your ohana space is all your own. A short drive from the airport and downtown Kona, it’s the perfect hub for island adventures!

The space
Located on the island's West side at a cool 1500 foot elevation, this studio ohana is best suited for a single person or couple. There is NO Air Conditioning in the unit, but at the high elevation it stays very comfortable throughout the year.

Kona Garden Studio Ohana is situated just 10 minutes up the hill from the Kona airport but you'll never hear the planes as they arrive and depart over the ocean. Also located a short distance from some of the Big Island's best surfing, diving and beaches. It is conveniently located close to Kona and Holualoa shopping and dining as well. A great hub for your island excursions.

This lovely ohana space has sunset-facing view from a private lanai where you can sit and enjoy the birds in the garden and year-round tropical climate. Keep in mind that with any place you stay in Kona, if you are at LESS than 1000 ft, it can be hot and humid. We are at 1500 ft - just perfect, it's warm and tropical, but not too hot. Relax to the sound of coqui frogs in the evening (they can be quite loud, but do quiet down as the temperature drops).

The unit comes with a fully equipped kitchenette (no oven), there is a single hot plate burner, toaster oven and outdoor BBQ grill. Electric kettle, blender, pots, pans, cutting boards, kitchen knives, mixing bowls with lids, colander, steamer, citrus juicer, cheese grater, measuring cups, dishes and utensils all on hand for your convenience.

Boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrella, cooler and snorkel gear is available for your use, located on the lanai. Beach towels are available inside of the unit as well.

Guest access
The ohana is self-check-in. Enter through the green door inside the carport, where the keypad is located. But once checked in, feel free to use the sliding door on the lanai, and walk through the red-gated garden access as you come and go. The sliding door is kept locked prior to your arrival.

The ohana is WiFi ready.

This private, ohana is always accessible even without us being home.

Arrival times at the ohana can be late, we don't mind. Early arrivals may be difficult for us because the ohana is popular, and we need the time to clean it, but feel free to check with us and we may be able to accommodate.

Generally, check-in is after 3:00 pm, and check-out is before 11:00 am.

Other things to note
Hawai’i island is mountainous and by far the largest of the Hawaiian islands. It is not feasible to see the entire island in a day. We highly recommend renting a car, and booking it in advance, ride-share is available in Kona, but to leave the area it becomes very expensive and less reliable. Even using ride-share into town can add up to be more than the cost of a rental car if you want to take multiple trips throughout the day. I have seen car rentals become unavailable during peak travel times, so having a reservation prior to your arrival is also advised. Bikes are great at sea level, but aren't advised as a primary mode of transportation as we live at 1500 ft elevation and it is a very steep hill climb without bike lanes or shoulders.

If you like hiking or plan on going to the volcano, remember to bring heavy-duty hiking boots or trail shoes. You will be glad you did. Also, bring a rain jacket. You will need it at some point when you explore the Tropical Rainforest. If you plan to visit the summit of Mauna Kea, bring a pair of long pants and a warm jacket (I even wear gloves and a hat up there with my down jacket). On the summit, it is quite cold, freezing temperatures are common especially in the winter and overnight, at 13,796 feet above sea level.

Things to Note:
*This Airbnb does NOT have air conditioning, but also not needed (in our opinion).
*Makeup stains and ruins our bedding and towels, please be mindful. Black makeup removal towels are provided for your use.
*Please allow us wash the linens, we are happy to provide additional clean towels or sheets if you need during your stay.
*Sand is best enjoyed at the beach! Please rinse your feet and personal items before entering.
*If items are damaged or missing, we kindly request that you pay to repair or replace.
*Outdoor cats and chickens live on the property.

Registration Details
GE-134-029-1584-01 TA-134-029-1584-01
