On Punahele Road, known for the best views in Princeville, only a handful of houses have the unobstructed panorama of golf course, ocean, and Bali Hai. Hale Wale is one of them.<br /><br />Among the first homes built in Princeville it has been completely updated and is now available to rent for the very first time. <br /><br />3 en-suite bedrooms, each with amazing views, combine with a spacious open floor plan for interior living. Add an expansive lanai and Hale Wale provides a quintessential Hawaiian experience.<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />Exceedingly comfortable inside and out each of the three bedrooms has a TV, ceiling fan, sitting area, clothes storage and outstanding views. Ensuite baths with spacious showers complete the privacy of each individual area.<br /><br />The open floor plan allows flow from living to kitchen to dining with ceiling fans, floor to ceiling windows and an 85” TV you won’t be able to tell if you are living inside or outside.<br /><br />The Lanai has its own comfortable living and dining areas, room for sunbathing and grilling and sits closer to the Makai Golf Course’s signature 6th and 7th holes than any home in Princeville.<br /><br />Kauai beaches are simple yet complicated. Simply, when you are on the island of Kauai you are always a short drive from a spectacular beach. But depending upon where you are on the island and what time of year you visit, your beach visits require some thought.<br /><br />Princeville is on the North Shore and sits on a bluff above 6 beaches and a world famous lava pool formed naturally millions of years ago. Winter months bring world class surf to the North Shore but casual swimmers need to be mindful of the ocean and only swim at reef protected beaches and only in areas and at times that are lifeguard approved. The summer months find a calm sea and access to some secret beaches, lava pools and waterfalls you won’t find in the winter. All beaches in Hawaii are public but access to the beaches vary. From Princeville there are paths down the cliff to get your toes in the sand but the paths range from staircases to paved but steep to rigorous inclines with rope ladders.<br /><br />From Hale Wale the quickest way to saltwater is down to Queen’s Bath whose trailhead is two houses from ours. Queen’s Bath is not a sandy beach but a naturally formed lava pool, it is sensation but please do your research. Don’t go if the hike or swimming are more than you can handle and never go there in the winter. There are two more trails less than a mile from the house. They will take you to connected sandy beaches known as Pali Ke Kua or Hideaways. Both are relatively private but fairly rocky. A very plesasant walk of less than a mile from Hale Wale finds the beginning of the trail/staircase to Pu’u Poa beach, a reef protected beach that is as swimmable as any on the North Shore.<br /><br />The island and its beaches open up with a very short drive. Less than 10 minutes and you will find yourself at Anini Beach or Hanalei Bay. 5 more minutes and you are at Secret Beach or Lumahai, though neither of those are reef protected and you should be cautious during the winter. 20 minutes gets you all the way to Ke’e beach at the end of the road or back down towards Anahola Bay.<br /><br />So, while you can get your toes in the sand easily from Hale Wale, exploration via a quick car ride will likely be your best bet.<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />Guests will have complete and private access to the house, lanai, yard and gardens complete with fruit trees and specimen plants.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />Hale Wale is named after its former co-owner Wally Schirra, the only astronaut to fly in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.<br /><br />With deep ties to the Hawaiian golf community Hale Wale has served as the hospitality hub for many early Princeville Golf tournaments hosting visiting tour players and hall of fame members alike.<br /><br />In 1978 the Makai Golf Course hosted the World Cup of Golf, the era’s version of Olympic Golf. 48 two-man teams from around the world competed including many major champions and future World Golf Hall of Fame members.
