Surrounded by forest on all sides, this ground-floor space offers the perfect setting for nature lovers, remote workers, or anyone needing a calm reset.<br /><br />Located just 15 minutes from Hilo intl airport and 25 from Volcano, it’s close to everything but feels like your own private nature sanctuary.<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />Please Read Before Booking 🌿<br />We know some of the information below may seem a bit lengthy, but we highly recommend taking a few moments to read through everything carefully so you can arrive with clear expectations and fully enjoy your stay with us :))<br />Our goal is to create a peaceful and transparent experience for everyone, and because our property is a unique jungle homestead, a little preparation goes a long way!<br /><br />The hosts are the proud new stewards of this sacred 10-acre jungle. Before their arrival, the land was left untouched for years, allowing it to grow wild and free. As a result, guests have the rare opportunity to witness some of the island’s most extraordinary natural wonders—towering fruit trees, massive old-growth bamboo clumps, wild avocado groves, and perhaps most magical of all, a handful of ancient banyan trees that feel like something straight out of Avatar. <br /><br />🌿 Don’t forget!<br />Ask us about our Farm Tour + Pick-Your-Own Fruit add-on 🌺🍊🌱<br />Explore the land, learn about our tropical plants, and take home a basket of fresh fruit<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />The ‘Ulu Suite is a private standalone home with its own kitchen and bathroom, nestled within a small jungle compound on our 10-acre property. The compound also includes a cabin and our two-story apartment located across the breezeway.<br /><br />There are no shared walls, facilities, or amenities — the suite is entirely self-contained. <br /><br />Parking areas are separate but located within approximately 40 feet of one another, so it’s possible you may briefly see other guests during arrival or departure.<br /><br />The expansive grassy lawn spans the property and may be enjoyed by guests of both units, though many guests find their experience peaceful and secluded. While we’re nearby if you need anything, we give our guests plenty of space to relax and feel like they have the land to themselves. <br /><br />Check out other listing to host up to 8 guests total! <br /><br />Due to wet winter conditions, parking is approx 12 meters from front door.<br /><br />WE RECOMMEND AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE<br /><br />The drive to our property is approximately 90% paved. The final half-kilometer stretch is a dirt/gravel road that can occasionally become uneven due to weather and regular island conditions.<br />Most standard 2WD vehicles are able to access the property without issue, though we generally recommend a 4WD or higher-clearance vehicle for a more comfortable arrival experience — especially during periods of heavy rain. Having a 4WD vehicle can also make exploring the Big Island easier and more enjoyable overall, as many of the island’s best beaches, scenic routes, and adventure spots involve rougher terrain.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />Staying in the lush beauty of the Upper Puna jungle is a truly immersive experience — but, as with all tropical environments, it comes with a few natural companions. Mosquitoes can be present, especially at dawn/dusk, so we recommend bringing your preferred bug repellent. <br /><br />Don’t be surprised if an occasional gecko stops by to say hello — they’re friendly and more scared of you! <br /><br />The Ulu Suite is designed for an open-air jungle experience and does not include glass windows. Screened windows provide ventilation while keeping insects out, allowing you to enjoy the natural sounds of the forest.<br /><br />You can expect to be serenaded to sleep by the songs of coqui frogs and wake up to the magical symphony of hundreds of native birds greeting the morning.<br /><br />Please note that our property runs on an off-grid rainwater catchment system. <br /><br />While we provide hot showers, water is limited, especially during drought periods. Shower temperatures can slightly fluctuate after extended use.
