Welcome home to a piece of San Francisco history and magic. <br /><br />This stunning, 1800+ square foot house is part of just 5% of the city that fully withstood the 1906 and the Loma Prieta earthquakes, a mix of fortuitous geography and magic. <br /><br />For more than 15 years, it has been my sanctuary when the rough and tumble of the business world has kicked me in the stomach, when heartbreak hit, and later it was the co-parent in helping me raise my gorgeous girls. <br /><br />I'm ready to share its magic with you!<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />Sky-high ceilings, original parquet floors and wainscoting, furniture and art curated from all over the world, this light-filled home will inspire and recharge you.<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />You'll have sole access to three bedrooms, a full bathroom, a huge kitchen with all new appliances, and living room.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />I am a single mom and a writer who has made my career and home in this city since I arrived in my early 20s. I tell my girls all the time: “Your mom’s words bought this house. Don’t ever let anyone tell you your words don’t have power.” <br /><br />This home is a place to manifest your dreams. <br /><br />I’ve held monthly dinners for powerful women in this house, hosted summer BBQs where companies were launched over paper tablecloths and napkins, hosted same-sex weddings in my living room the second it was legal, written three bestselling books sitting by those gorgeous, floor-to-ceiling bay windows, and snuggled up for countless backyard pizza-and-movie nights with my kids. <br /><br />This home has always been whatever I needed it to be. San Francisco is still my home, but my kids go to school in another city and I need less space, so I want to share some of the magic of this house with you. (I have an apartment with a separate entrance in the back of the house.) <br /><br />Our large Victorian comfortably sleeps six people, but if it’s just two of you, you’ll enjoy five spacious, high-ceiling, art-filled, light-filled rooms of living space to expand, relax, recharge, get work done, or be inspired.<br /><br />The 120-year-old+ moldings, wainscoting and original floors are complemented by beautiful modern and vintage furniture I’ve spent my adult life handpicking for this space. <br /><br />The walls are hung with art I’ve collected from my travels all over the world, from Canada, Nigeria, Rwanda, London, Mexico, Berlin. Outside the home you’ll hear a mix of half a dozen languages being spoken in a section of the Mission that’s still primarily immigrant. It’s like a trip to San Francisco and a trip around the world rolled into one. <br /><br />Let’s talk about food, because that’s my favorite part about living here. The Mission is San Francisco’s foodie epicenter. A dozen Michelin starred restaurants are within a short stroll, along with world famous taquerias and dive bars open late, and one of the best meals you can find on earth for just $6. (Details in the restaurant guide!) <br /><br />Everything you’d want to consume is at its apex in the Mission. Wild Hawk has the best handcrafted cosmopolitan you’ll ever drink. Delfina and Flour + Water are internationally acclaimed for their pizzas. Tartine’s bread started a whole movement on the West Coast. BiRite Ice Cream has lines around the block for a reason. (Pro tips on avoiding the lines in my guide!)<br /><br />Is it Thursday afternoon in the Spring or Summer? Do this right now: Head to the Beauty Bar and get your frozen margarita to go, then head over to the Farmer’s Market on 22nd between Mission and Valencia. You’ll find a little old Italian man who just made pastas and raviolis that morning. You’ll find freshly made pound cake that’ll pair beautifully with the berries and fresh cream you just bought. You’ll find award winning butter. (That’s a thing here!) You’ll find high end bougie dog treats. (Our poodle’s favorite are the oxtails and the dried sausage patties.) <br /><br />If you want peaches, go to the stand with the grumpy old men. They won’t smile, but their peaches are better than you’ll find in Georgia. We buy two bags a week in the summer, because my youngest daughter is eating one all on her own.<br /><br />The best local boutiques of the city are on nearby Valencia street, acclaimed murals dot the alleyways, and we’ve got easy access to Bart, busses and connections to Caltrain. <br /><br />In a city that’s known for being colder than you expect, the Mission District is sunny and breezy almost every day of the year. (Twin Peaks helpfully splits Karl the Fog, for a block on either side of us. Magic, I’m telling you.) <br /><br />This neighborhood is a runner and dog owner’s paradise, with Dolores Park nearby and Golden Gate Park just a three mile jog away. We’ve got plenty of yoga and fitness studios blocks from our home, a Peloton here for your use, and can suggest several gorgeous scenic urban hikes nearby. <br /><br />This is truly the neighborhood that showcases the best of what San Francisco has to offer and the perfect center point for exploring the greater Bay Area.
