Enjoy our beautiful cottage all to yourself at a cool and breezy 1400' elevation just 10 minutes from town and minutes up the mountain from the Kona International Airport. Relax at the end of a fun day of adventure with a glass of wine on the spacious lanai while you watch the sunset.<br /><br />Our cottage is a perfect base for exploring, whether you want to have fun in beautiful Kailua-Kona or head north to some of the world's most spectacular beaches we're located conveniently between the two.<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />We typically leave one to two days between bookings in order to make everything perfect for our next arrival. If you find that your preferred booking dates are short at the beginning or end, please contact us, we are happy to accommodate when possible.<br /><br />Our 600 square foot cottage has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a fully functional kitchen including an apartment sized stove/oven and a full sized refrigerator. The spacious and fully covered lanai is accessible from the living room and kitchen via two sets of sliding doors and is the perfect spot for relaxing or dining while enjoying the views of the ocean as well as the land around our home which is covered in avocado and macadamia nut trees. Help yourself to our local produce!<br /><br />Primary bedroom has a King bed, 2 night stands, two large windows, a ceiling fan and a full closet. <br /><br />Secondary bedroom has a queen size bed, one night stand, 2 large windows, a dedicated work space, and a wall mounted cabinet for storage. There is no enclosed closet however there is an area for hanging clothes.<br /><br />The bathroom has a combined bathtub/shower.<br /><br />All rooms have vinyl flooring.<br /><br />Between the guest cottage (where you will be staying) and our primary residence where we live with our family is a large and fully enclosed detached garage which provides a nice amount of privacy between the two homes (see images in photo gallery).<br /><br />With over 30 years of Kona life, we are happy to help with ideas, recommendations, tips, directions, and more. We look forward to welcoming you!<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />Guests have access to the entire guest cottage and lanai as well as a dedicated parking space in front of the cottage just off of the paved driveway.<br /><br />Our family of 4 lives in the front house separated from the guest cottage by an enclosed free standing garage.<br /><br />Like many properties in Hawaii, we have a long driveway that some may find a little tricky to navigate the first time when reversing to leave. Our cottage is professionally cleaned between all bookings and also has routine professional pest control treatments however bugs will still be found inside on occasion. Ants, centipedes, spiders, cockroaches, mosquitos, bees, moths, frogs, geckos, and even scorpions are common all over the Big Island. We do our best to eliminate pests by having screened windows and providing bug spray, but those with intense fear of bugs and small pests may prefer to stay elsewhere.<br /><br />Feathered Creatures: Our home is located in a neighborhood with large parcels of land and is overflowing with Turkeys, Pheasants, Chickens, Roosters (Hawaii's true state bird, haha), and even flocks of wild parrots and other beautiful birds. We do not encourage or deliberately house any of these however it is not uncommon to have them around. We have disposable earplugs available in the cottage if you find that they are too exuberant in the early mornings.<br /><br />Other: Our area is relatively quiet however one block over is a busier road so you may hear more vehicles certain times of day. Also, due to the open air lifestyle in Hawaii, some residential noise from neighbors is to be expected.
