Custom construction details are visible in every room including stained glass windows created by a local artisan, shelves/cabinetry/mantles made from various types of wind-fallen salvaged hardwood by a local woodworker, and large restored leaded glass exterior windows. The furniture and décor are an artful mix of well-made, hand-crafted pieces/antiques/heirlooms, as well as tapestries and art from the owner’s travels around the world. <br /><br />The home is bright and airy since each room has multiple windows facing various directions and 11-foot ceilings. All rooms (except bathroom which is tiled) feature hardwood floors with handwoven area rugs and carpets throughout. The home is usually warm enough to keep windows partially open but there is also a forced-air heating system for the occasional cold/foggy day. The gourmet kitchen is the home’s pièce de résistance, and the playground of the owners, both of whom are well-traveled foodies.<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />This is a home that the owners also use regularly between trips, but when they are not here it is 100 percent YOURS to enjoy (with the exception of a couple of locked closets).<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />Parking is on the street, either paid at meters or limited to two hours and also subject to street cleaning several mornings a week.<br /><br />The flat spans the entire third floor, so be prepared to climb approximately 40 steps to reach the living area. Although the apartment is located in a four-unit building, it has a private entrance and no apartments above it, or visible obstructions from the windows so it feels very private and like a self-contained home. The original walls are thick and muffle sounds from other people in the building. <br /><br />This is NOT a party house.
