Stay in a traditional Hawaiian-style cabin surrounded by lush rainforest, volcanic energy, and the sounds of nature.<br /><br />Our property is sustainably powered with grid connection, strong Wi-Fi, and a 10,000-gallon rainwater catchment system. Enjoy endless hot rainforest showers and reliable power throughout your stay. Each cabin has been newly updated with added comforts, including USB charging ports right beside your bed. While fully equipped for comfort, the property is run with sustainability in mind, using approximately one-quarter of the energy of a typical household.<br /><br />This rustic volcano-themed jungalow features exposed stud walls and built-in shelving for a light, open feel. Inside you’ll find a queen bed, full-size fridge, Camp Chef oven, propane heater, private bathroom, and covered lanai for relaxing in the jungle air.<br /><br />Guests also have access to a shared COMMUNITY kitchen and laundry room located on the property and shared with two other rentals. Please note that guests staying in the Pele’s Breath cabin will pass through the community kitchen area to reach a path leading to the cabin behind it. To experience the atmosphere, search “Bathing Suits and Rain Boots” on YouTube for a sense of the coqui frog soundtrack that fills the property after dark. Think of it as the rainforest’s own nighttime chorus — a unique experience many guests find peaceful and unforgettable.<br /><br />BEACH GEAR<br />Guests are welcome to use boogie boards, surfboards, masks and snorkels (no fins), and beach towels during their stay.<br /><br />ANIMALS & FARM LIFE<br />We operate a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue on the property, so there may be rescue dogs on the acre at any given time. Guests are welcome to interact with the dogs after coordinating with the host, and some guests enjoy taking them on walks or outings to help socialize them and prepare them for adoption.<br /><br />The property is also home to friendly cats and chickens, adding to the authentic homestead experience.<br /><br />TROPICAL HOMESTEAD<br />We actively homestead and grow a variety of tropical foods throughout the property including lilikoi, bananas, papayas, pineapple, figs, strawberries, poha berries, sugar cane, lemons, blood oranges, rosemary, basil, and more depending on the season.<br /><br />MASSAGES<br />Rainforest massages are available on-site starting at $100/hour.<br /><br />LOCATION<br />We are located about 30 minutes from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and centrally positioned for exploring many other parts of the Big Island. Keep in mind the Big Island is much larger than the other Hawaiian islands, so longer scenic drives are part of the experience here.<br /><br />CLIMATE<br />At approximately 1,880 feet elevation, evenings can become cool and cozy, especially during the winter and rainy season. All cabins include propane heaters for comfort. If visiting during winter months, we recommend bringing light layers, a rain jacket, and rain boots for exploring the island comfortably.<br /><br />ADDITIONAL DETAILS<br />There are four cabins total on the one-acre property.
