This is the room that our many return guests fight over. The One Bedroom Suite with Ocean View is on the second floor of the house and has a spectacular view of Kealakekua Bay and the Pacific Ocean. My name is Kurt. Our wish is that you will feel like you are staying with friends here in Hawaii rather than being cubed up in a hotel somewhere. We take the time with all of our guests to find out their interests and help them to build as tight or loose an itinerary as they wish -- emphasizing ocean, geological, archeological, nature, scientific, cultural, and/or social activities. As you will find, there is much to do on the Big Island, or, what we call, the "real Hawaii.". A large portion of our guests are return "customers" who come back to the Edge year after year. Many people use the Edge of the World as a base from which to explore the rest of the Big Island. Others use it as a place to watch papaya grow, and that's fine too. For Kana, my Japanese wife, and me, it is a genuine pleasure to meet folks from around the U.S. and from around the world. <br /><br /><br />The Crow's Nest (called Best Ocean View in Hawaii Room) is on the second floor of the house and has a spectacular view of Kealakekua Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It has a private lanai, private bath, refrigerator, wall to wall carpet, and king size bed. It is our most popular room and a favorite of honeymooners, artists and poets. It is $179 plus tax per night. This room may have the best view in Hawaii! <br /><br /><br />When there are more than two guests per room, there is an additional charge of $20 per person per night. In those cases we put out Japanese style futons. The maximum capacity for each room is four. Also, I do not charge extra for one night stays. <br /><br />Prices include a hearty, tropical breakfast. We are also a member of the Hawaii Island Bed and Breakfast Association, and the Edge of the World has recently won the "Traveler's Choice Award" (B&B Registry), so guests can be assured of the highest standards. You'll also find A Beautiful Edge of the World recommended in the the Hawaii edition of the Lonely Planet. <br /><br />We are located on a five acre working farm, surrounded by macadamia nut, coffee, papaya, avocado, and mango trees. If you're a coffee drinker, you'll be served my own 100% pure, organic Kona coffee every morning.(Don't mean to brag about our coffee, but many folks have told us it's the best they've ever tasted. We wholesale to our guests, any quantity.) If you would like to try my own noni tea, just let me know. We also grow organic bananas, pineapple, guava, papaya, sour sop, Surinam cherries, atemoya, cherimoya, oranges, limes, sapodilla, and passion fruit, some of which you will be served with breakfast, depending on the fruits in season. There are also abundant beautiful flowers scattered here and there. <br /><br />Guests who stay for three days or more may use the microwave and refrigerator. We also offer free laundry service for guests who stay three days or more. We have complimentary hair dryers, beach towels and mats, limited snorkel equipment, and ice chests for our guests. Guests are welcome to use my computer for a quick check of their e-mail. Guests are welcome to congregate any place in the house, including a magnificent balcony that looks out over the ocean. . It's a great place to watch the sun go down. There's also a table in the garden area in front of the house for guests.<br /><br /><b>During your stay</b><br />On check in we give the guests a brief tour of what's available for them. The host almost always joins the guests after breakfast and over a cup of coffee he will make suggestions about things to see and do that may not be in "normal" guide books. Our aim is that you will have a truly exceptional experience on the Big Island and we do our part to help make that happen.<br /><br />Guests that wish may join the host, schedule permitting, for a tour of coffee, macadamia and various tropical plants. Learn about the uses of some of these plants by the ancient Hawaiians on your tour led by Dr. Weigelt.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />Hawaii State taxes will be applied to your accommodation after arrival at the rate of 18.71%. While we wish we didn't have to charge this extra fee--we are required by the state to collect it for them. This is the only additional fee paid to the hosts after check in. There are no "single-night stay fees", no parking fees, no other fees of any kind. <br /><br />Regarding one night reservations, it depends on existing reservations for that particular room.
