Aloha from Kailua Kona on the big island of Hawaii! Our ohana is a cozy 400 sq ft one bedroom with brand new kitchenette, dining, and living spaces and a view of old Kona Village and Kailua bay just a mile walk away. The yard features mature bougainvillea and hibiscus. You'll have a separate entrance on the ground floor, below the main house where we live. The sofa pulls out to a queen sleeper.<br /><br />The kitchenette has a microwave, small refrig/freezer, sink, coffee maker, & induction hotplate.<br /><br /><b>The space</b><br />The ohana has been completely renovated! It has one bedroom with a comfortable queen bed, a living room queen sofa sleeper that can accommodate one of the guests (if not sharing the queen bed in the bedroom), one bathroom with walk-in shower, outdoor concrete lanai with seating, and a clear view of Kailua Bay and the ocean beyond. Enjoy nice breezes and ceiling fans for relaxed cooling (there are no air conditioners). A one mile walk along a not-too-busy road gets you to old Kona Village and Kailua Bay. Note that guests will not have access to an on site clothes washer/dryer. A laundromat is available nearby, about 1 mile away.<br /><br />Note that like most Hawaiian island homes, the open windows allowing cool breezes also means you’ll hear a neighbor’s crowing rooster, coqui frogs, birds, or other animal life. <br /><br />We are located in the middle of town surrounded by neighbors, and in the early mornings as people head out to work you will hear sounds of cars starting, children and dogs, along with a lot of birds. If you are used to a hermetically sealed home, this might not work for you. <br /><br />The registration number is GE-185-846-3232-01.<br /><br /><b>Guest access</b><br />You'll get an entry code for the Schlage electronic entry dead bolt before you arrive, providing access to the private ohana any time of day.<br /><br /><b>Other things to note</b><br />Street parking available in a residential neighborhood on a dead-end street. Locals are friendly and considerate. <br /><br />Note that the walk from the street to the rental is up a short inclined driveway.<br /><br />Sleeping is best with jalousie windows open for a gentle cool breeze coupled with ceiling fans; you'll also hear sounds of birds, a rooster, and other wildlife. As with most residences in the area, the apartment does not have air conditioning.<br /><br />The apartment has an induction hot plate and induction-compatible skillet and medium sized sauce pan. Also there is a standard toaster and a small microwave oven. <br /><br />With advanced notice and approval, snorkel and beach equipment can be made available for guest use.
